Star Wars novels.  This is the mega-list of Star Wars novels in chronological order within the Star Wars Universe.  I still consider these to be canon and consider all Disney Star Wars to be bad fanfic.

Star Wars was the ultimate movie experience of the 1970s.  Now, appearing in hardcover nearly twenty years since its first publication, here is the first thrilling novel in the epic that lives on as one of the most-loved science fiction sagas of all time.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...

Luke Skywalker lived and worked on his uncle's farm on the remote planet of Tatooine - but he yearned for adventures out among the stars, adventures that would take him beyond the farthest galaxies to distant and alien worlds.

But Luke got more than he bargained for when he intercepted a cryptic message from a beautiful princess held captive by a dark and powerful warlord.  Luke didn't know who she was, but her knew ha had to save her - and soon, because time was running out.  Armed only with courage and the lightsaber that had been his father's, Luke was catapulted into the middle of the most savage space war ever... and he was headed straight for a desperate encounter on the enemy battle station known as the Death Star...

Luke Skywalker.  Han Solo.  Princess Leia.  Artoo-Detoo.  See-Threepio.  Darth Vader.  They're all here in an adventure that ignited the imagination of a generation…

A New York Times bestseller when it was first published, this hardcover collector's edition has a new introduction by George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars.  It is a must for anyone who wants to relive the excitement of the Star Wars legend again and again.

George Lucas, who began his career as a filmmaker when he directed his first feature film THX 1138, achieved success in 1973 with American Graffiti, which he cowrote and directed.  In 1977, with the release of Star Wars, he changed the way movies are made.  This success was followed with The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, which were episodes V and VI of a continuing series of Star Wars films.  He then continued with the creation of the Indiana Jones films, Willow, Tucker: The Man and His Dream, and the television series "The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles."  Currently he is working on the screenplays to Star Wars episodes I, II, and III.  Mr. Lucas lives in Marin County.

STAR WARS
A NEW HOPE

The world's first glimpse of Star Wars happened with little fanfare, and the first edition of the novel sold modestly.  It wasn't until the official "tie-in" version of the book that it sold millions of copies and broke records, much like the film was doing in theaters.  In a way, the original book performed as I expected the film to do - a respectable showing, certainly nothing to set the world on fire, but hopefully enough to allow me to follow up with the further stories in the saga.  Happily, Star Wars exceeded my expectations.

  • I try to maintain page numbers for audiobooks even though obviously there aren't any. I do this to keep track of pages read and I try to use the Kindle version page numbers for this.
  • Synopses marked with an asterisk (*) were generated by an AI. There aren't a lot since this is an iffy way to do it - AI seems to make stuff up.
  • When specific publication dates are unknown (ie prefixed with a "Cir"), I try to get the publication date that is closest to the specific printing that I can.
  • When listing chapters, I only list chapters relevant to the story. I will usually leave off Author Notes, Indices, Acknowledgements, etc unless they are relevant to the story or the book is non-fiction.
  • Page numbers on this site are for the end of the main story. I normally do not include appendices, extra material, and other miscellaneous stuff at the end of the book in the page count.
